I'm coming for you, Alaska

dress: handmade // shirt: thrifted // tights: forever 21 // shoes: target

Just a super quick post for you today! I have one final left this Friday morning, and then I'll finish cleaning the dorm and doing last minute packing, and then tonight I'll be off for summer vacation! I'm really sad to leave all my friends for four months though. And the hot Oregon weather we've been having. And just the atmosphere of my town and Portland in general. But I'm also excited to go back to Alaska. I have some fun summer projects that I want to do, and I'm starting my photography internship on Monday. It's going to be a summer of experiences (I always love labeling different times in my life, so now this is going to be my motto for the whole summer. And because it now has that label, just you watch, there are going to be some absolutely insane experiences. And they will be awesome), and I cannot wait.

I can't believe I'm already done with freshman year of college. It seems like only yesterday I was heading off to class for the first time (I walked into the wrong room and everything), and now I'm finally done. So many memories, so many experiences, so many lessons learned. It hasn't quite hit me yet that the first year is over. From being so freaked out about such a big life change to who I am today, it's been a huge transformation, not only style-wise and academically, but socially, emotionally, spiritually, and rationally (ie. gained some maturity and responsibility). I dyed my hair for the first time, met some awesome photographers, got my first job working at the scene shop and newspaper, explored my beautiful state, took pictures of strangers, tried new classes, developed film photos for the very first time, had my first gallery show, started selling prints through a stock agency, had my work in the student art show, and won an award for my photography.

Who would have thought that I was going to do all those things my first year of college? If this is just the beginning, I can't wait to see what the next three years will hold. Needless to say, it's been an awesome first year.

the big mission

"Do you have what it takes to be a world class spy? If you wish to join the ranks of the greatest spies of all time, then come join us for a chance to test your skills. Your mission? Dodge the land mines, jump over the fence, hop on the rocks in the river, jump over the ravine, roll on the ground, go through the lasers, and diffuse the bomb! The fate of the world is in your hands!"

That was our anthem a couple weeks ago as my friends and I made and proceeded to spend the entire night completing an obstacle course. I snapped a few photos of the event in between dubstep Legend of Zelda music and timers and sweat flying everywhere. I am proud to say that I ended up with the fastest time, 15.1 seconds, and rightly so considering I did that course a billion times and was so exhausted by the end. But it was totally worth it.

Basically, our floor is the coolest ever. How can you argue with a spy training center?

college street style: february edition

As writer for the school newspaper, I do a column about college street style. Here's some outfits I found particularly inspiring, especially with everyone's use of color..

college street style

Hey everybody! I know I've been absent for the past few days, but I have been busy with some awesome things for this blog! One of the things I am really excited about is a new feature: college street style! I work for the newspaper and am doing a column on css (and hopefully if all goes according to my evil plans, it will become a regular feature in the newspaper), and part of the plan is to post some of the looks on Introvert's Introduction! So here is this week's college street style.

Kali Lefevre

"I don't like to wear anything that makes me uncomfortable."

Tabatha Kogle

"Whatever I'm wearing that day usually reflects my mood."

Angelique Kirkham

"I like to wear comfortable jeans and a t-shirt, but my roommate's a model so I've been getting more into skirts and scarves."

Matt Bowe

"[I like to wear] anything. Usually a button-up and some jeans."

I hope you guys like this post! I've been majorly outside of my comfort zone doing this, but I hope to continue it as it is a great way to stretch myself and meet the fabulously dressed people that attend college.

beach road trip

Last Saturday my friends and I went to the beach! I snapped a whole bunch of photos as there are no proper beaches in Alaska and I was beyond excited to go. (I even took film photos, which have yet to be developed.) It was the perfect sunny day as we drove over to Pacific City, Oregon through the winding country hillside singing along to mainstream music at the top of our lungs and feeling absolutely amazing.

My friends and I finally got to the beach, where we played in the water for about five seconds because it was so cold, explored the dunes and caves for seashells and cool rocks, and laid out in the sun talking and laughing. I even kept some of our findings which are now sitting happily on my desk in my little home.

Who knew I could love so deeply as I love these girls in such a short time that we've known each other. They fill my heart with such joy and I'm so glad I've gotten to know them.

goodbye Alaska, hello Oregon

day 236

Hello everyone! I am blogging to you live from Newberg, Oregon! My parents and I left Alaska at 12:55am and have been going nonstop ever since. Today has felt like the longest day ever, but one of the most amazing ones too. Right now I'm in my very own dorm room with my roommate Annette. There are girls unpacking from the 11pm Fred Meyers run and everyone is getting incredibly excited--at least I am. It's been so fun meeting new people, and I can say I've done a pretty okay job with it so far.

For those of you who are like me, you just have to be confident and know that everyone is wanting to make friends right now. No one will think you're awkward or weird because everyone is too worried about making a good first impression, ya know? Matt has helped me a lot--he always tells me to be confident and to not worry about what other people think; to just go out there and, as George Fox's motto says, "Be Known."

I have a bit more organizing to do. I ended up stuffing things in (neat) piles in the various drawers, but I want to do a more thorough cleaning once I have a spare moment. Those may be few and far between, however, as tomorrow's schedule is just as busy as today's. Oh and guess what, I have my first job interview tomorrow! It's with the costume department with the theater, so of course that would be the perfect job for me. Let's just hope I can find the place easily. Wish me luck!

Hope you guys have an awesome day.

College Wish List Pt. 4

College Wish List Pt. 4

My college is located in a very wet climate, which not only is bad news for my hair, but also everything else. Alaska is somewhat rainy in the summertime, but it's not humid whatsoever, so humidity and nearly constant rainy weather are going to be a big change for me. But it won't be so bad with these adorable rain items! I have a philosophy that you feel like what you wear, and to an extent those you come in contact with as well, so whenever it's rainy, I want to wear a bright rain coat. Yellow, I think, is the typical rain coat color that people think of, and it's no surprise--yellow is just so happy!

All of these things are needs on my list ... I don't own rain boots or an umbrella or anything. Good thing there are several months before college starts!

College Wish List Pt. 3

College Wish List Pt. 3

Hooray! Another college wishlist! This one's a bit more random, with clocks and lamps and a chalkboard and headphones, but that's just the way it goes. I'm obsessed with time, the concept of it, being on time, etc. (random fact: I'm not very good at telling time because I cheated on the time cards we had in first grade that taught us how to tell time ... I was such a bad kid, haha. Well I'm paying for it now!) Clocks really add a homey touch anywhere, plus they're good to, ya know, not be late to class and whatnot.

And just look at those fun paper lanterns? The dorm that I requested to stay in has a glorious window wall in each dorm, so there is plenty of natural lighting, but being a photography person, I'll still need tons of light if I ever want to do indoor shoots in my tiny dorm room.

The dorm that I hope to live in sadly is going to be torn down after my freshman year, so I'm hoping that maybe, just maybe they'll let us paint the walls and nail things into them and whatnot, but if not I will definitely want a cute whiteboard or chalkboard to write down important things I want to remember. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the painting dream!

The headphones are more of a want than a need. But still, they're super awesome!

The wish list series still isn't over, so stay tuned for more in the upcoming days!

P.S. I've managed to lose my SD card adapter AGAIN, so the 365 will be updated as soon as I find it ... I guess it's time to clean my room again.
